Older Helena homes take longer to clean

Helena was built with gold rush money, and you can still see it on the west side. The mansion district and the streets above Last Chance Gulch are full of brick and wood houses from the mining days. They have tall windows, carved trim, wood floors and narrow stairs. Every one of those surfaces holds dust, and none of it comes clean with a quick pass.

Farther out, the houses change. The newer subdivisions in the Helena Valley have wall to wall carpet and attached garages. Winter in Helena is long and cold, and the city puts sand and de-icer on the streets for months. All of it comes home on boots.
